Update at Tim’s House!
Exciting updates from Tim McDonald's House!
Hard to believe it’s been about a year since we poured the footings—after four long months of drilling and splitting rock. Right after that first pour, winter weather shut us down for another four months, and we didn’t get back on site until March 2025.
It’s been a challenging eight months since then—rain alone kept us away for nearly half that time. So when the boom/pump truck and six concrete trucks showed up on October 23rd to pour 2.5 stories of this 3-story structure, excitement (and nerves) were high.
The pour was dicey, but we pulled it off! We had four “blowouts” in the ICF formwork—two from missed bracing and two from inexplicable block failures—but we managed to fix everything on the fly and finished just as the sun was setting.
Then came two critical next steps:
1️⃣ Windows and doors arriving in four weeks.
2️⃣ A 20 kW solar array + 25 kW battery system that needed to be purchased, installed, and generating by year’s end (!!!).
The solar superstructure went up last week—rails are on their way after being shipped to the wrong address—and now it’s a full-on sprint to get all the Zip panels, window bucks, and flashing ready before installation day.
Huge thanks to Haycon for teaming up on the window and door install.
It’s been a long, messy, unpredictable process—but every milestone feels huge.
Time to get back at it! 💪☀️🏗️
