Brian J Honan Initial Blower Door Testing

Here we go again! Thrilled to be gearing up for the #DeepEnergyRetrofit (DER) of the Brian J. Honan Apartments, which includes 50 units across 9 buildings in the Allston neighborhood of Boston—and also right down the street from the newly completed Hano Homes DER.

Before the real transformation begins, there’s one milestone we always look forward to: blower door testing day. The teams from Haycon and Sustainable Comfort, Inc. rolled in with multiple blower doors to measure how much air is leaking through the existing envelope and to spot the usual suspects in leakage pathways.

Our first test building clocked in at ~0.54 cfm50 per envelope area, which represents the ENTIRE building’s air volume turning over 9.5 times every hour.😳

Plenty of room for improvement, and we’re excited to see this one progress!
Here’s to another retrofit that raises the bar.
