OFA Lecturing at Berkeley National Lab:Architectural Challenges in Shaping Sustainable Residential Buildings

“On March 27, 2024, at 9:00 am Pacific time, the Building Decarbonization Coalition and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is putting on a seminar series on challenges and opportunities for home decarbonization entitled: Architectural Challenges in Shaping Sustainable Residential Buildings.

This is a follow-up to an earlier seminar series that you can find here. In this new seminar series we will hear from industry experts and researchers who are actively engaged in working on home electrification and decarbonization. They will share their latest experience and insights to provide practical solutions for getting to scale with the sustainable energy transition in homes. As well as technical solutions, these seminars will cover topics including affordability, equity, workforce and resilience.

The seminar will explore the challenges architects and the building sector face in integrating decarbonization solutions into the design process of residential projects, providing insights into the complex decision-making process and fostering a deeper understanding of the interplay between design intent and sustainable outcomes.

With a focused exploration of key elements—barriers, strategies, gaps, and next steps—participants will gain comprehensive perspectives on the multifaceted nature of home decarbonization initiatives during the design process. The seminar places a strong emphasis on the design process, underscoring the importance of extracting valuable lessons from the experiences of the presenters. By fostering this exchange of insights, the seminar seeks to promote a better understanding of key issues and solutions in the design process of residential decarbonization projects. “
